BÁILALO MEANS DANCE IT AWAY
Human beings in traditional societies engaged in communal dancing regularly —even daily. In contemporary Western society, this means of bodily expression has been largely lost. Indeed, many people today can hardly conceive the idea of dancing without first removing their “inhibitions” through alcohol or other drugs.
However, scientific research has recently been accumulating evidence for the benefits of movement and dance, together with mindfulness practices of body awareness.
Moving to music in the company of others, for example, reduces symptoms of depression more effectively than walking, yoga, or even standard psychological treatments.
Báilalo (literally “dance it” or “dance it away” in Spanish) is a space where you will be able to experience these valuable benefits for yourself, in a safe and friendly environment where the objective is not to “dance well” or “look cool” but simply to free your body, express yourself, and discover the primal enjoyment of flowing with the music.
